brief history of FLAUS, The FLAUS was founded in 1983, during the first Latin American Congress of Ultrasound held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with the intention to invite all the national societies of the Latin American community and the associated physicians working in medical ultrasound, to join efforts in divulgation and education in this field. This idea was proposed by Dr. Ricardo Parada (Uruguay) and well accepted by all the ultrasound community of those years. The Organization has 12 members from the entire Continent, including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela. There are some another countries to be affiliated as Guatemala, Honduras and Peru. During this two decades the FLAUS has organized successfully ten Congresses in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela and hosted the VII Congress of the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology -WFUMB, held in Argentina in 1997. FLAUS encourages the promotion of ultrasound with education programs and national congresses in the affiliated countries. Dr. Hiroki Watanabe and Dr. Barry Goldberg honored the last FLAUS meeting held in Margarita Island, Venezuela, with their visit and lectures. The association maintains a close relationship with WFUMB thru its representatives in the Boards and Commissions. Leandro
